Transmission Service, Repair & Swaps

Transmission fluid services, diagnosis, rebuilds and complete swaps for Temecula, Murrieta and Menifee drivers. We test before we condemn - not every slip is a rebuild.

Not every slipping transmission needs a rebuild - fluid condition, solenoid faults and line pressure get tested first, because three of those are a fraction of the price.

At A Glance

  • Fluid and filter services with the correct spec fluid - the wrong fluid ruins a good transmission
  • Scan tool testing of solenoids, line pressure, adaptive learning and shift timing
  • Rebuilds and complete automatic or manual swaps at our garage
  • Clutch replacement, rear main seals and torque converter work

Test before you condemn

The word rebuild gets used far too fast. A transmission that flares between gears might have low fluid, a failing shift solenoid, a wiring fault, or adaptive learning that has gone bad after a battery change. Those are hours, not days, and hundreds rather than thousands.

We check fluid level and condition first - burnt fluid smells like it sounds and tells you a lot. Then we scan for stored codes across the transmission and engine modules, watch commanded versus actual gear, and read line pressure where the vehicle reports it. Only when the data says internal do we talk about opening it up.

Fluid services, done properly

The internet argument about whether to service a high-mileage automatic misses the point. The damage is not the fresh fluid - it is the detergent shock from a pressure flush on a transmission whose clutches are already worn to the edge. A drain and fill with the correct fluid, repeated, is safe on almost anything.

Correct fluid matters more than brand. Modern transmissiones are specified to a fluid type down to friction modifiers, and universal fluid in a transmission that wanted a specific spec produces shudder and early failure. We look yours up rather than guessing.

Rebuilds and swaps

When it is internal, the choice is a rebuild of your unit or a replacement. Both happen at our garage. A rebuild gets new clutches, steels, seals, bushings and usually a torque converter, plus any hard parts that show wear - the front pump and stator support get inspected closely, because a scored pump ruins a fresh rebuild in short order.

Every job goes back with new fluid, a cooler flush so the old debris does not come straight back into the new unit, adaptive values reset, and a road test through every gear.

FAQ

Common Questions

How do I know if it is the transmission or the engine?

Engine problems change how the car makes power; transmission problems change how that power reaches the wheels. If revs climb without the car accelerating, that is slip. If the car shakes under load at a steady speed, that is often a converter or a misfire. We road test to tell them apart.

Is a transmission flush a bad idea on a high-mileage car?

A high-pressure flush can be. Drain and fill services are not - they are the safest way to get fresh fluid in without shocking worn clutches. We do it that way by default.

How much is a rebuild?

It ranges widely by vehicle - a common domestic four-speed and a modern eight-speed are very different jobs. We quote after diagnosis, with the used and reman replacement options priced alongside so you can compare.

Do you work on manual transmissions?

Yes - clutch replacement, rear main seals, throw-out bearings, slave cylinders and complete manual swaps.
